Real vs Unreal

"School prepares you for the real world" - What is a more "unreal" place than school?

  1. Classroom can be described as an unreal place where sts. Learn and haveknowledge but there are places which are more natural and real e.g. home, theschool playground, the park…etc.
    Besides,ethicstaught in classroom are not always those sts. need in real life .I think thatwhat most teachers do in is divinginformation but they miss preparing sts. to real life situations. We asteachers should prepare our sts. to deal with difficult ethical situations they are likely to to face in their adult &professional live . eg. if they understand the practical factors they bear onethical decision making, they will be better able to apply their own values inreal life. We can give them tools that will make it possible for them to betheir own "best selves" if they choose to be
    When constructing a case study for ethic teaching wehave to consider the following:
    1What is the ethical problem to beembodied in the case study?
    2- What are the teaching objectives for thecase study?
    An important e.g is telling stories .I think the powerof case stories & narrative teaches ethics for real life situations.
    Another important e.g is doll's theater ( where sts. havethe chance to act) & role play.
    * time management:
    a st. has to decide between attending an importantmeeting or going to a concert.
    * The case of the missing case:
    a st. finds himself in a situation where if he doesthe right thing, the consequence could be losing his friends.
    * school education projects:
    e.g Green poster (environment)
    - Waste watcher( keep Jordan clean)
    -a debate ( huntind rare animals)
    -Mars exploration( risk to potential lifeon another planet)

  2. WE REACH THE REALM OF UNREALITY WHEN THERE IS GAP BETWEEN OUR BEHAVIORS AND THOUGHTS .I THINK THAT THE STARTING POINT FOR TEACHING SHOULD BEGIN FROM REALTY AND END IN THE REAL WORLD .The problem is not about what is real or unreal .THE ISSUE HERE IS ABOUT BEING HONEST AUTHENTIC AND dedicated TO YOUR MORALE SO OUR ORGANISATION COULD BECOME UNREAL IF WE LOSE OUR FEELING OF BELONGING AND COMMITMENT . Having a clear vision about what ,where ,when ,who and why you are doing things in this way or another locates your position on the map of teaching .

    1. Sabreen. This is true we don't practise what we believe...and thus ideas start to die inside... and this is part of it!we make school unnatural! Besides, parents play a major role in creating that barrier between students and school.. They're just counting down the terrible moment of landing on the devil's zone!(school)..There other factors like the curriculum (hidden agendas may be)that creates the unreal ... I want to put it simply and honestly " how many of us came to teach for the sake of Allah or because he/she loves this job, or because he/ she wants strongly to help the Palestinian children? Didn't we come for the sake of salaries...? And this what makes it unreal ..we've got no sense of belonging ...no responsibility ..and after all no real schools
